Week of October 27 - 31

Monday - We started the second half of unit 3 with solving Radical Equations. if you need another copy of the notes. you can down load them Here

Tuesday we added to the solving of radical equations by using the same steps to solve Radical inequalities. Except step 4 changed. With inequalities there is no need to check your result, but if you are dealing with < or <= you have to find the lower bound by setting the radicand >= 0 and solving for the variable.  Remember that all answers for inequalities must be written in interval notation.

Wednesday - Today we started graphing radical equations.
Thursday we will continue with graphing radical equations this time with cube roots.

Friday We will quiz over solving radicals and graphing radicals.

Review for Part 1 of the rational and radical test

If you are needing extra work on the first radical and rational test, here is a copy of the review and answer key that was given in class on 10/23/14

Week of October 13 - preview

This week we start unit 3, Radical and Rational Equations

Monday - We will begin by reviewing factoring from unit 2. Rational expressions are polynomials that have been written in fractional form.
Tuesday  - We will practice Multiplying Rational Expressions
Wednesday - We will practice Dividing Rational Expressions
Thursday - Quiz on Multiplying and Dividing Rational Expressions
Friday - Pep rally Day - We will continue practicing Multiplying and Dividing Rational Expressions.

Week of Oct 6 update

Monday we worked on writing the equation of a polynomial give the zeros.
We also looked at sketching the graph of a polynomial give key characteristics.
If you would like extra practice with sketching the graph, you can click HERE

Tuesday we worked on solving systems of equations that consisted of a quadratic and a linear.
We learned to solve them graphically and algebraically. If you need the completed notes, you can click HERE
We also had a practice page. you can click HERE if you need another copy of the practice.  Both notes and practice need to be kept in your KEEPER notebook.

Wednesday we will finish reviewing for the test. Last Friday you received the review. If you need another copy, you can download it HERE

Thursday we will take the assessment and also begin a self assessment about where we are grade wise.  We will continue this project on Friday along with the BOX project.Download Box Project

A week in Preview, October 6 - October 10

Monday and Tuesday we will work on the final topics for the test on Wednesday.
We will learn how to take given roots and write an equation.
We will learn how to sketch the graph given key characteristics.
We will learn how to solve a system of equations that consist of a quadratic and a linear. We will do this both graphically and algebraically.

Tuesday we will also finish working on the review.

Wednesday we will take the assessment and complete a student survey.

Thursday we will work on a Box Project that will utilize what we have learned about Polynomials.

Friday we will begin work on Unit 3, Rational expressions.

This week in Review Sept 28 - October 3

Monday - We discussed how to determine end behavior of a graph by looking at a graph and by looking at the leading coefficient and degree of the polynomial. We created a chart in our notes. You can download a copy of the chart by clicking HERE
Then we looked at the 8 graphs we have been working with on all of our characteristics and learned how to identify the x and y intercepts graphically.

Tuesday - We learned how to find the x and y intercepts algebraically.
Steps to find the x-intercepts of a polynomial algebraically

  1. Set the polynomial equal to 0
  2. Factor the polynomial completely
  3. Set each factor equal to 0
  4. Solve each for the variable
Steps to find the y-intercept of a polynomial algebraically
  1. Replace all x with 0
  2. Simplify
We again took all of the equations that we have been looking at for the characteristics and used them to practice finding x and y intercepts. We used the graphs to confirm that we had solved correctly.

Wednesday - We learned how to use synthetic division and the Rational Root Theorem to solve polynomials for all zeros, also known as roots, solutions, x-intercepts.

Thursday and Friday were review days.
Thursday you had several graphs to look at and list all the characteristics that we have been working on.  Unfortunately, I do not have a digital copy of the graphs.  You also had an end behavior worksheet that you can click HERE if you need another copy. Then there was also a page of polynomials to solve. I also do not have a digital copy of the 8 polynomials to solve. All of this work is due on MONDAY, Oct. 6.

Friday you will work on the review for the unit test. We still have some topics to cover but you can begin working on your review problems that we have covered and start your studying over the weekend.  If you need another copy, you can click HERE.

The Next Test is Wednesday, October 8
